鈴木康広×原美術館ARC　日本列島の方位磁針

水に浮かべると実際の日本列島の向きがわかる方位磁針。
鈴木康広の作品『日本列島の方位磁針』を、列島を水に浮かべる仕様に変えて製作しました。

着磁を施したステンレス片を水面に浮かべると、地球の磁気に反応してゆっくり動き、日本列島が実際にどんな向きで横たわっているのかがわかるというしくみ。
普段日本という島の形や向きを意識する機会は稀ですが、磁針を目前にすると「こちらが北海道、あちらに九州が・・・」という具合に、日本の方位にリアリティを感じとれます。付属のアクリルに挟んでオブジェとしてもお楽しみください。

Yasuhiro Suzuki + Hara Museum ARC: Compass of Japanese Islands

The entire Japanese archipelago as a compass. Float it on water and it points northward. Based on Yasuhiro Suzuki's 2011 work entitled Compass of Japanese Islands, this item is the result of a collaboration between the artist and the Hara Museum. Made of magnetized stainless steel in the form of the Japanese Islands, the compass floats on water and moves in response to the Earth's magnetic field. Shows not only Japan’s orientation on the Earth, but also the relationship between its various islands, When not in use, can be displayed between acrylic blocks (include) as an art object. Comes with instructions by Yasuhiro Suzuki.
